Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has called on opposition leaders to rally behind a single presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 General Election, arguing that unity remains the only viable strategy to unseat President William Ruto.
Speaking during the burial service of the late Ann Nyatoro, mother of EALA MP Kanini Kega, on Thursday, May 14, 2026, Sifuna said opposition leaders must set aside their differences and prioritise a common political agenda.
He insisted that fragmentation within the opposition would only strengthen the current administration’s re-election bid.
“Mheshimiwa Riggy G, let me tell you. We are convinced that there is no other formula. Before God, there is no other formula other than a united ticket against William Ruto,” Sifuna noted.
Need for forgiveness
Sifuna noted that the leaders should move away from the past political agendas and work together as a team.
He cited the previous impeachment of the former deputy president, insisting that the two leaders should now focus son future and reconcile with the past political experiences.
He told Gachagua that if it means forgiving one another, they should forgive each other and move forward as a united front. He said it is simply not acceptable that they give Ruto another chance to return to that seat and continue oppressing our people and subjecting Kenyans to hardship and suffering.
“So, whatever needs to be done, kama ni kusameheana, wacha basi tusameheane tu. Lakini haiwezekani tumpatie huyu ndugu yetu nafasi yeye aweze kurudi kwenye hiyo kiti aendelee kukandamiza wananchi wetu,” Sifuna said.
The poll placed a Rigathi Gachagua-Kalonzo Musyoka pairing second with 25 per cent support, revealing a close contest over who could lead a united opposition front against President William Ruto in 2027-PeopleDaily.Digital
