The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned Kenyans to brace for moderate to heavy rains in several parts of the country for the next five days, beginning Tuesday, February 17, to Saturday, February 21.
In its weekly weather advisory, Kenya Met on Tuesday, February 17, Kenya Met predicted rains in Central Kenya, Rift Valley, Lake Victoria basin, Coastal region and Eastern Lowland areas.
In Central Kenya, rains were forecasted in the counties of Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi and Nairobi.
According to the meteorological department, rain in these areas would begin mostly in the afternoon, after cloudy and sunny intervals in the morning, with the downpour expected to extend into the night.
Similarly, in the Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria basin, downpours were forecasted in Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo and Uasin Gishu.
The meteorological department warned of heavy downpours in the aforementioned counties, with the rains expected to be accompanied by thunderstorms.
Other counties that were predicted to experience a similar weather pattern are Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot.
Kenya Met also projected rains in the Eastern Lowland areas of Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta Counties, as well as inland parts of Tana River County.
However, the weather department revealed that the northern counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo would remain sunny and dry for the forecast period.
In addition to rainfall advisory, the met cautioned residents of Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi and Nairobi to brace for unusually cold conditions.
According to Kenya Met, night temperatures in these counties were expected to drop up to 7°C for the first three days of the forecast period before rising to 8°C for the remaining days.
Additionally, the weather department warned of high daytime temperatures in some parts of the country, particularly in the coastal counties of Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale Counties, as well as the Tana Delta-Kenyans.co.ke.
