- Raila Odinga’s family was put on the spot in 2025 following his death, and a woman came out claiming to be Jaramogi Oginga’s wife.
- Anyango Jabalo claimed she was one of Jaramogi’s widows and dropped private details about the family members, including Raila’s wife, Ida.
- The late prime minister’s sister, Pauline, while being interviewed, set the record straight about who Jabalo was in their family.
The late Raila Odinga’s little-known sister, Pauline Oginga, has opened up about their family and set the record straight about her father, Jaramogi Oginga’s wives.
In December 2025, Raila’s other sister, Akinyi Wenwa, clarified the details of their father Jaramogi’s marriages following claims by a woman named Anyango Jabalo who came out to claim she was one of his widows. Jabalo alleged that she was integrated into the family as a wife and that her children were being neglected, demanding they receive a share of the family inheritance.
Was Anyango Jabalo married to Jaramogi Oginga?
In response, Wenwa listed the recognised wives of Jaramogi, identifying them as Mary Juma, Gaudencia Adeya, Susan Agik, and Mama Betty, while noting that Adeya had left and remarried elsewhere.
While in an interview with Hermon Manyara, Pauline noted that Jaballo is a distant relative, but she was never romantically with her late father. “Jaramogi had four wives. There was Mama Mary, there was Gaudencia, who divorced in 1984, then there was Mama Susan, and then there is Mama Betty. My mum is Mama Betty, and she and Mama Mary come from the same home in Alego. The lady who used to make videos (Anyango) is a cousin from Alego. She was a cousin to my mum and step-mum, Mama Mary. You know how, as Africans, we are communal and social, we visit each other, so by extension, if my sister visits me or pays her school fees once in a while, it does not mean that she is my husband’s wife or co-wife,” she said.
Pauline emphasised that her dad died over 32 years ago and that Jabalo’s videos were full of hate towards their family. She confirmed that she was neither a wife nor a lover to the late Jaramogi and questioned what her motives were with her videos. “She was never married to Jaramogi; she has kids from another white person, but not from Bondo. In our community, in our culture, when you are married, there is a dowry paid, and you have a house,” she said.
