Nakimuli passed away on Sunday, April 19, after undergoing an operation at the private medical facility located along Yusuf Lule Road in Kampala.
How did Helen Nakimuli die?
Preliminary reports indicate that the procedure was unsuccessful, leading to complications that medical personnel were unable to reverse.
According to Nakimuli’s PA, she went in for an operation at 12:00 at the hospital called Alexandria Specialised Hospital.
After 3 hours at around 3 pm, the doctor came to them and said that the operation went well, but the patient wasn’t coming back, and they needed a family member.
The PA went into the theatre, though he wasn’t family, and doctors pumped her for over one hour, but she never came back.
The Parliament of Uganda issued an official statement expressing deep sorrow following Nakimuli’s sudden death. “It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Kalangala Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Helen Nakimuli. We convey our condolences to the family, the people of Kalangala and the entire country for this untimely loss. The burial programme will be shared in due course,” the statement read.
She was a member of the opposition National Unity Platform and first entered Parliament after the 2021 General Election. Nakimuli, 41, who was re-elected in the January 15 elections to represent the island district for her second term, was known for her advocacy on issues affecting hard-to-reach communities, particularly in healthcare, education and opportunities for women and youth.

The National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Bobi Wine issued a statement confirming the sad news, terming Nakimuli’s death as terrible and shocking.
